Eating in Tewkesbury

Whether its fish & chips you're after, or an evening of wining and dining from a choice of many restaurants, Tewkesbury has the lot.

For Fish & Chips go to either the Kingfisher, in Quay Street, or the Abbey Fryer (formerly Steamy Windows) in Barton Street. Many other types of take-away food are also available, such as Chinese food from Hing Wah and Joy Garden in Barton Street, Pizza from Chicago Pizza at the north end of High Street, or kebabs from Barbeque Turkish Delights near to The Cross. Also located at The Cross is Burger Star.

Tewkesbury has 3 restaurants specialising in either Tandoori, Balti or Bengali cuisine and are conveniently distributed on each of the 3 main streets. Church Street has the Nirala Tandoori Restaurant, Barton Street has The Eastern Eye and the Rajshahi in High Street. All offer a take-away or restaurant service.

The Great Wall of China, which, as the name suggests serves Chinese cuisine, is located near to Lloyds TSB on High Street and is recommended by many who have been there. Also recommended is the New World Vietnamese Restaurant at the north end of High Street.

For a traditional pub meal, the choice is plentiful. Starting from the north end of town, Ye Olde Black Bear is at the northern tip of High Street. On Church Street is the Royal Hop Pole Hotel and further south along the same road is the Bell Hotel. Continuing south, towards the site of the famous Battle of Tewkesbury, we find the Gupshill Manor (shown right) which for good reason is especially popular at Sunday lunchtimes.
