King Johns Tavern, Tewkesbury

Regularly the scene of violence, public urination, vomiting and other forms of public disorder, the King Johns Tavern or 'Tavern' as it is 'affectionately' known is one of the lesser-welcomed public houses in Tewkesbury. Granted a license extension in September 2005 by Tewkesbury council, the decision was greeted with dismay, bewilderment and anger by local residents. Many share the view that the problem is quite clear. There is either a total lack of interest or ability on behalf of the landlord, police and council, to deal with the current level of public nuisance. They feel that an extension of the license will only aggravate what is to many an already intolerable situation. A police raid during the summer of 2006 resulted in the discovery of a number of knives and a quantity of white powder believed to be a class A drug. |
